400 Students Ditch School And Show Up At Their Teacher’s Home - Here’s Why

Some 400 students played hooky from their Christian school in Nashville, Tennessee, but their teachers didn't mind. In fact, the teachers also cut class and went with the students. There was something more important than school that day.

Mr. Ellis was a beloved educator that has been described as 'the definition of a teacher, a role model, a servant.' The Christ Presbyterian Academy teacher was diagnosed with esophageal cancer that had spread to his lungs. When treatments were no longer a very good option, Ellis decided to choose quality of life and prepared to enter hospice.

The principal of the school said multiple people came up and said the same thing: that the whole school should head to Mr. Ellis's house and pray for him, and sing songs to cheer him up. So, that's just what the school did.

School buses hauled 400 students and staff members drove their cars. The entire school serenaded Mr. Ellis as he watched out his window. Despite facing the end, the man of faith was at peace and accepted all the love and support he was given that day.

"It was a powerful and moving outpouring of love that our students were able to bestow upon a man who loves us well," wrote the principal in a letter to parents. "We returned to campus and went straight into chapel, where we prayed and praised God. It was broken and beautiful.”
