4-Year-Old's Tombstone Removed Because One Person Claim It Offended Them

A single mother in the UK was dismayed to learn that her son’s headstone was removed from the cemetery without her permission. According to BBC News, the reason was that the stone was ‘not in keeping’ with others in the cemetery.

Jo Corbett lost her son Max due to complications from severe epilepsy a few years back. It took her some time to get a stone together to mark Max’s gravesite, but she would eventually select a star-shaped stone that she felt was a perfect representation of her son. Just three days later, the Malvern town council would have it removed.

"I was totally unaware this was going on. The council did not contact me and it was the stonemason who told me he'd been ordered to remove it,” Jo explains.

The council has offered up an explanation for the removal and acknowledges that it was a ‘difficult’ decision.

"We have a conformity of shapes in our lawn cemetery. We were contacted by people who objected to the shape. The longer it stayed up, the harder the process would have been. It was a very difficult decision to remove it but one we had to make straight away," the council said.
