4-year-old Daughter Comforts Mom at Vigil for Slain Colorado Police Officers

The disturbing wave of mass shootings across the US continues, with the most recent incident occurring in small community in Colorado near Denver.

A grieving widow named Gracie Parrish, the wife of a deputy struck slain in a mass shooting in Colorado last Sunday, spoke movingly at a vigil for her husband (Deputy Zackari Parrish).

Gracie was amazingly brace and strong, and her unshakeable faith in God and commitment to bring up her two young daughters may have stirred hearts, her 4-year-old daughter’s simple honesty in trying comfort mom was clearly the highlight of the vigil.

When she saw how distraught her mom was, the girl just leaned over and promised her mom that everything would be all right so she didn’t have to worry. This amazing scene was one of the more poignant instances during the vigil at Mission Hills Church in Littleton on Monday evening.

Gracie was crying her eyes out during the vigil, obviously in the grips of and overwhelmed by her grief.

“I want to hear about him, and I want to soak it in,” she commented on a video obtained by Denver TV media sources.

As Gracie teared up and was obviously hard pressed to continue, her sweet 4-year-old daughter leaned over and softly spoke words of encouragement to her mother, “It’s OK, momma, it’s OK. Just be happy.” Note that the little girl was being held by a middle aged male family member.

During her comments at the vigil, Gracie noted: “I am overwhelmed with by the love and support of the community and of the nation. Never in my world would I have imagined this.”

“I will raise my girls to love you,” Gracie continued as tears were pouring down her cheeks.

Of note, a GoFundMe page has been launched to provide financial assistance to the grieving family, and the fund has received over $230,000 in donations to date.

This unfortunate mass shooting incident unfolded as law enforcement officials in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, were contacted regarding a domestic violence call. This seemingly routine call resulted in a deadly shootout that left six people (including four members of law enforcement) injured and led to the death of Zackari Parrish.

Media reports point out that the shooter Matthew Riehl had a history of disturbing online behavior and had been in other incidents with police — was eventually shot and killed by police at the home.

It seems that police first responded to an apartment call on Sunday morning when a couple of neighbors complained about noise. When the officers arrived at the scene there was no noise, so they left the scene after determining there were no ongoing violations of the law. The shooting incident broke out when several local deputies returned to the residence for a second time about two hours later when they got a call alleging ongoing domestic disturbance.

Local Colorado media sources are reporting that the 37-year-old Riehl had barricaded himself inside the apartment, and started to fire on deputies with a high-powered weapon when they started their approach to the residence.
