4-Month-Old Laughs For The First Time, Dies Hours Later

A family in the UK has had their world completely turned upside down after the loss of their four-month-old son. According to the Daily Mail, the boy fell ill and passed away just hours after achieving a huge development milestone.

Kris Adams, 19, and Shannon Summerfield, 17, had left their son Evan in the care of his great-grandparents. The boy laughed for the first time while in their care, but would turn ill shortly thereafter. Just hours later, he would awake from a nap with a rash stretching from his head to his navel, as well as a high temperature.

Evan was rushed to the Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, where it was discovered that he had meningoccal septicaemia. Doctors and nurses would feverishly jump into action to fend off the effects, but it was to no avail. He would tragically pass away just a short time later.

“We're so confused how fast this horrible, nasty illness just takes hold. One moment he was laughing and smiling and then, it seems like in a heartbeat, he was so cruelly taken away,” said grandmother Sarah Summerfield.
