3-Month-Old Girl Suddenly Dies - Now Her Parents Know Why

Gemma Williams and Jason Thomas were the proud new parents of a beautiful three-month-old baby girl named Lexi, and their lives would tragically be forever altered during a routine trip to the store. Lexi would pass away in stunning fashion and without any signs that something was wrong, and that’s leading the parents to call for some changes.

As the Mirror reports, Lexi was found to have a rare illness known as total anomalous pulmonary venous drainage upon her passing. The condition results in only a tiny amount of much-needed oxygenated blood to flow around the body, but it went undetected by doctors at the hospital.

“I went to touch Lexi’s face but she didn’t react. Then I realised something wasn’t right and I shouted for help. Luckily there was someone in the shop who was medically trained and was trying to resuscitate her while we waited for an ambulance. I didn’t think it was real. Before I knew it my child was gone. The pain will never go – I have just learnt to cope with it,” Gemma explained.

Despite her utter devastation, Gemma is leading the charge for changes via an online petition. She’s become aware of a simple test that can be done to detect the condition in newborns, and she’s pushing to make it mandatory so other parents don’t have to suffer through such an unspeakable tragedy. Her petition is entitled ‘Lexi’s Vital Test for Newborns,’ and it’s been picking up a ton of traction and gathered over a thousand signatures already.

“It breaks my heart knowing that this very simple test could have saved Lexi’s life. Why is this not a standard test for all newborns? The machine used for this test is already in the hospitals so hospitals would not have to spend money on equipment, just the time of the person carrying out the test,” she continued.
