25-Year-Old Nurse Survives More Than A Day After Fall Down 100-Foot Cliff

A very lucky 25-year-old nurse named Amber Kohnhorst has somehow survived a more than 100-foot fall down a cliff while hiking by herself in Arizona. Amber was injured and unable to move at the bottom of the cliff for 28 desperate hours until she was rescued by a helicopter.

Kohnhorst was driving through Arizona on her way to Utah when she decided to stay at a bed and breakfast in Cane Beds, AZ, and went for a walk along the Rose Cliffs trail in the late afternoon of Friday, May 20.

What she thought was an easy trail for a quick sunset hike before night soon turned into a nightmare. She could not figure out how to get back down from the steep summit she had climbed.

Suffered Major Back Injury In Fall

The darkness and unfamiliarity led to disaster. “I couldn't find my footsteps and that's when my brain went into panic mode. I tried calling 911 right away but I had no cellphone service so I needed to find my way down,” Kohnhorst told the media after her ordeal.

Kohnhorst ended up tripping and falling over 100 feet, sliding to a stop at the edge of the major 800-foot cliff.

It turned out that Kohnhorst suffered a serious back injury in the fall and blacked out for several hours afterward. All’s well that ends well, however, and Kohnhorst was spotted a little more than a day after her fall and choppered to safety by a Mojave Country rescue helicopter.
