12-Year-Old Prepares Herself To Marry A 37-Year-Old Man, Then She Does The Unthinkable

Plan Norway’s event for the UN’s International Day of the Girl Child really brought to light the true horror of the world’s child marriage problem.

According to Plan Norway, 39,000 under age children are forced to marry everyday.

The organization held Norway’s first official child wedding and invited hundreds to attend the church ceremony where 12-year-old Thea was to wed 37-year-old Geir, Little Things reports. Seeing the child walk down the aisle looking terrified in her bridal gown was a truly astonishing and eye-opening experience for guests.

When the priest asked whether she took Geir to be her husband, the crowd shouted, “Stop the wedding!” The bride turns around and walks back down the aisle and away from her groom and the audience breaks out in a cheer.

Many were impressed by Plan Norway’s brilliant event to bring awareness to child marriage.

“They managed to cast more light on the matter, because we hear about child brides in poor countries very often, but not many people care, or do something about it,” a YouTube commenter wrote.

Plan Norway works to promote healthcare, education and protection from violence and abuse for children in 51 developing countries. The independent organization is financed by sponsorships and donations from 21 countries. The organization has no religious, political or governmental affiliations.
