100-Yard Object Washes Up On Shore - Officials Finally Know What It Is
Anyone that has ever frequented a beach knows that strange things will wash ashore from time to time, but the majority of the items are harmless enough. However, sometimes the items are beyond unusual and become the stuff of local legend. That’s the case for this massive object that washed up on the shores of New Zealand, and local residents are freaking out at the sheer size of the frightening object.
As AWM shares, what washed ashore is an absolutely massive black, plastic pipe-like object that’s estimated to be longer than a football field. It washed up out of nowhere near Te Waewae Bay on New Zealand’s south island, and a member of local law enforcement just happened to stumble across it.
“We’ve been to check it out today and attempted to move it with a couple of people, but it didn’t want to budge,” said Deputy Harbormaster Ian Coard.
Officials haven’t the foggiest idea what the object might be, so they took the step of sharing a photo of it with the locals.
“Any ideas on what this might be? Or who might be missing it? This 100 meter long object washed up on Te Waewae Bay in western Southland this week. Our Deputy Harbourmaster Ian Coard has been out to have a closer but says no one seems to know what it is or who it belongs to. The object is long, black, made of some kind of plastic, has metal loops in each end and is pretty heavy,” the photo was captioned.
They received hundreds of responses, and the tinfoil hat crowd came out in full force. There was a well-documented story of a monster-like creature that washed up on the shores of New Zealand from a short time back, and that story remains fresh in the locals mind. Others have offered more helpful suggestions, but there’s still no confirmation on exactly what it is.
“Looks like a length of welded polyethylene pipe with towing eyes on each end for directional drilling,” shared one commenter.
