Arizona Teen Drinks Too Many Energy Drinks, Ends Up Dead

A young, sixteen-year-old student from Sunrise Mountain High School, Arizona, was taken to Rocky Point hospital after she suffered from a cardiac arrest when she was on a weekend trip in Mexico with her friend and their parents on June 14, 2014.

Lanna Hamann, a very fit, athletic and healthy teen, mysteriously suffered a heart attack while she was relaxing at the beach with friends on a hot summers day. Reports indicate that although she was extremely dehydrated, Lanna was drinking Red Bull all day instead of water.

That evening, after informing her friend’s father that she was feeling unwell, Lanna suffered from the fatal cardiac arrest.

Although the cause of the heart attack could not be determined, cardiologist Jack Wolfson has warned of the dangers energy drinks pose to the body; ‘There is medical evidence that these things do harm, they can cause changes in the heart rhythm and impact blood pressure’ It is because of this that Lanna’s mother, Kris Hamann believe that the energy drinks are to blame for her daughter’s passing.

Hamann has pleaded that ‘parents should make sure they’re watching their kids…what they’re drinking and make sure they’re drinking water instead of energy drinks, hoping that parents and teens will learn a lesson from her the possible role of energy drinks in her daughter’s tragic death

Unfortunately, Lanna’s family suffered even more heartache when they faced a myriad of complications while trying to transport her body home. Due to problems with her birth certificate, the cost of transporting Lanna home was more than $13,000.

Thanks to the help of a GoFundMe page and a social media project called #GetLannahome, the Hamann family could bring Lanna back to America for burial.

A memorial has been placed on a beautiful mountain top for the softball star, where many of Lanna’s friends and family have visited to pay their respect and mourn the loss of a young girl taken far too soon.
