Mother Notices Small Marks On Her Face; Family Loses Her Days Later

The family of Cassandra Campbell is still coming to terms with the woman’s shocking passing at the age of 24. She was doing perfectly fine until she noticed a small dark mark on her body. As AWM shares, she would be dead just a few days later.

Campbell noticed that she had a small bug bite, and it looked like it may have been getting infected. She took a trip to the doctor just to be safe. Campbell was nursing at the time, but the doctor assured her it would be ok for her to take some antibiotics. Shortly after returning home, she developed some mysterious flu-like symptoms and progressively got worse.

“I got a call from her boyfriend saying she couldn’t see. Her eyes were all matted shut, and she couldn’t walk. They actually didn’t know at first what was causing it, and they called doctors around the world,” explains her mother, Cindy Shoemaker.

Campbell ended up being in and out of the emergency room a couple of times, but doctors couldn’t get to the bottom of what was going on with her. Finally, they discovered that she was having a severe reaction to the antibiotics, but it was too late at that point.

“It was tough, it was tough. It’s the biggest fear I ever had was losing one of my children. She was a brand new mom, and it was taken from her. Then the doctors came up to me, and they just told me they were sorry and they couldn’t save her,” Shoemaker continued.

While this is an incredibly rare case, it was also a potentially avoidable one. The family still sees it as extremely important to make others aware - just in case it can prevent another unnecessary death. The heartbreaking story has been gaining a ton of traction, and hopefully it will raise some additional awareness about this rare reaction among ER doctors as well.
