Colorado School Must Distribute Satanic And Athiest Pamphlets

After the distribution of Christian materials, the Western Colorado Atheists and Freethinkers (WCAF) are working with Freedom From Religion Foundation to offer "an alternative way of thinking" to students in the Delta School District in Delta, Colorado.

Anne Landman, a member of the WCAF, said "Students are not only getting a lesson about the federal laws and our constitution, but also a different point of view that you can find around the world." The literature has been approved and will be distributed on April 1.

Pamphlets will consist of topics such as "The Satanic Children’s Big Book of Activities," "Top 10 Public School State-Church Violations and How to Stop Them," and "What’s Wrong with the Ten Commandments?" In December 2015, Landman wrote on her blog that a student at Delta Middle School noted "overt violations of separation of church and state" when Bibles were provided for students near the entrance of the school. The student was harassed for not taking a Bible.

Principal Jennifer Lohrberg told the child's parents that the Bible distribution was in accordance to school policy regarding non-curricular literature.

Landman argued, "The school cannot discriminate against various points of view. If it’s going to distribute Christian literature, it has to also permit the distribution from every other point of view: atheism, Satanism, Buddhism. They have to take all comers."

Assistant Superintendent Kurt Clay stated, "This is the other side of that. The policy says we cannot discriminate what is handed out, we just have to follow the process." Clay added, "We’re trying to find a workaround but we just don’t know at this point."
