Whataburger Diners Surprised To See Melania Trump

Melania Trump, who promotes healthy eating when she speaks with children, reportedly was not quite sure what to do when she found herself at a fast-food restaurant this week.

According to the Daily Mail, the first lady appeared to be confused about how to order a meal at the Whataburger that she and Karen Pence (the wife of Vice President Mike Pence) visited in Corpus Christi, Texas. Others in the motorcade, as well as reporters, were not allowed inside the eatery, but did receive deliveries of French fries.

The spouses of the two top-ranking political figures in the country, along with Texas first lady Cecilia Abbott, kept gazing at the menu options for quite a while before making their selections. It was unknown what the women eventually ate, though CNN reported that they had no hamburgers during their trip.

As usual, Melania Trump was wearing expensive clothes. Some media outlets gushed about her fashion sense. A raincoat may have been more appropriate for the conditions on the wet and windy day in southern Texas.

President Trump would have had no trouble figuring out how to order food at a Whataburger. His appetite for fast food is legendary.

A photographer recently snapped a shot of the president chowing down on a McDonald’s Big Mac on Air Force One. During his recent visit to Japan, Trump chose to eat a hamburger instead of tasting one of the country’s traditional dishes.

He asked for the patty, made of American Angus beef, to be cooked “well done.”

The nation’s first and second ladies were in Texas to console some of the victims of Hurricane Harvey. They also met with first responders and other emergency services personnel who helped people caught in flooding following the storm, as well as a Rockport family that lost its house.

They toured the family’s new home, a manufactured housing unit that the Federal Emergency Management Agency gave them to use a temporary residence.

The women also went to an elementary school and a food bank. Melania told reporters: “We are here to lend our support to those who were impacted by Hurricane Harvey. … My husband’s administration has worked with Governor Abbott to ensure resources are made available to help your community recover from the storm.”

Following the women’s trip to the restaurant, Gov. Greg Abbott posted a picture and tweeted: “@FLOTUS at Whataburger today with my wife the First Lady of Texas. They are here for ongoing help for #HurricaneHarvey. @TexasFLCA #txlege #TexasStrong.”

Melania’s communications director, Stephanie Grisham, also shared a photo and wrote: “On our way out of town, @FLOTUS & @SecondLady decided to stop in to @Whataburger for some lunch! The American chain opened its 1st restaurant in Corpus Christi, TX in 1950!”

Whataburger told its Twitter followers: “Hope it was a great meal! Thanks for stopping by.”

The Corpus Christi Police Department tweeted “@Flotus knows a good burger @Whataburger,” while a Texas land commissioner staffer posted photos and wrote: “@FLOTUS @SecondLady @TexasFLCA @georgepbush obligatory stop at the best burger in America: @Whataburger.”
