Warren Lashes Out at Trump Adviser’s ‘Bigotry’

Sen. Elizabeth Warren on Tuesday called Stephen Bannon, Donald Trump’s newly named chief strategist, “a man who says by his very presence that this is a White House that will embrace bigotry.”

The Hill reported that the Massachusetts lawmaker is among many Democrats and civil-rights organizations that have come out against Bannon, a former top executive at the right-wing Breitbart News. During his tenure at the website, Bannon frequently published articles slamming women, Muslims and Jews. He referred to Bill Kristol, a Republican adviser and commentator, as a “renegade Jew.”

Warren told The Wall Street Journal’s CEO Council, which was meeting in the nation’s capital, that “people didn’t vote for Trump so he could bring a white supremacist into the White House.” She continued: “I just want to underline something that every one of you knows. Bigotry is bad for business. Bigotry is not what your employees expect. Bigotry is not what your customers expect, and if that’s the direction this administration goes, that creates a real problem for everyone.”

The Hill noted that following Trump’s victory in last week’s election, Warren proclaimed during a speech to AFL-CIO labor-union leaders: “We will stand up to bigotry. No compromises ever on this one; bigotry in all its forms. We will fight back against attacks on Latinos, on African-Americans, on women, on Muslims, on immigrants, on disabled Americans, on anyone.”

Warren, a Hillary Clinton supporter and Trump critic during the presidential campaign, once called the real-estate mogul a “thin-skinned, racist bully.”
