Veterans Group Rips Trump’s Plan to Reform VA

Donald Trump’s ideas for reforming the Department of Veterans Affairs are “heavy on rhetoric, light on specifics,” according to the Concerned Veterans for America.

The Hill reported that Pete Hegseth, the CVA’s chief executive officer, said in a written statement released Saturday: “While Donald Trump rightly proposes more health-care choices for veterans and long-overdue accountability for bad VA employees, his ‘plan’ is painfully thin on specifics about how he would implement those principles.”

Hegseth alleged that the Republican presidential candidate’s call for shorter delays at VA clinics is “very similar to the same old song and dance of dumping more money into the VA” instead of “fundamentally restructuring” the agency.

“Just like the current VA secretary, Robert McDonald, Trump uses many of the right buzzwords around VA reform, but his actual plan largely doubles down on the failed VA health-care system,” Hegseth wrote.

CVA members have not forgotten about Trump’s criticism of Arizona Sen. John McCain, who was a prisoner of war in Vietnam. The billionaire businessman declared earlier in the campaign that McCain is “not a war hero” because he was captured by the enemy.

Hegseth wrote: “It’s unfortunate that Donald Trump would release this unserious plan after spending months talking about the VA, even stooping to the level of attacking VA reform leaders like Senator John McCain – a man who has consistently taken the lead in reforming and fixing the VA.”
