Trump's Wiretapping Allegations Just Got More Real Today, Now This Is Happening

The Department of Justice is appealing to the House of Intelligence Committee to give President Donald Trump more time. The HIC ordered the president to present evidence to support Mr. Trump's claims that the former administration wiretapped Trump Tower during the election. If it doesn't get answers, it has threatened to use a 'compulsory process'.

The DOJ requested more time 'to determine what if any responsive documents may exist'. President Trump was supposed to present his evidence on Monday after making the explosive claims, implicating his predecessor in illegal wiretapping activity.

"Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my "wires tapped" in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!" read the initial tweet from President Trump.

Former President Barack Obama's spokespeople and former aides have repeatedly denied the charges.

A hearing is scheduled for March 20th to investigate the claims and review the evidence. When requesting the evidence for Monday, Jack Langer, spokesperson for the Republican-controlled HIC, wrote, "If the committee does not receive a response by then, the Committee will ask for this information during the March 20 hearing and may resort to a compulsory process if our questions continue to go unanswered."

Pressure was put on the Trump administration when evidence failed to appear. According to Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham, a member of the Judiciary Committee, the FBI had not yet gotten back to him about the allegations. "If I were the FBI Director, who I like, I would respond to my letter ... before I publicly testify because you'll run afoul of the Judiciary Committee."

The White House press secretary told the press on Monday that the president didn't literally mean wiretapping, but used the term ' to mean broadly, surveillance, and other activities'.

"He doesn't really think that president went up and tapped his phones personally," Spicer said.
