Trump Will Not Rule Out Going Nuclear On Europe

Donald Trump, when asked Wednesday night whether as president he would attack European countries with nuclear weapons, responded: “No, I don’t think so … (but) I’m not taking cards off the table.”

According to the Daily Mail, the Republican presidential front-runner was responding to a question by MSNBC’s Chris Matthews during a town hall event in Wisconsin, the site of the next primary election on Tuesday. The host asked Trump to explain his policy for the use of nuclear arms, pointing out that the billionaire businessman has shifted his position on the issue.

Though Trump recently lamented the growth of nuclear weapons around the world, he has since urged Japan, South Korea and Saudi Arabia to go nuclear so they can better defend themselves from their adversaries.

Matthews asked whether the United States could “conceivably use a nuclear weapon in the Middle East or in Europe in fighting ISIS.” Trump replied that he would be “very, very slow and hesitant to pull that trigger,” adding: “Look, nuclear should be off the table, but would there a time when it could be used? Possibly. … I was against Iraq. I’d be the last one to use the nuclear weapon. (But) I would never take any of my cards off the table.” He repeated the card-game metaphor several times.

The Daily Mail noted that during the interview, Trump also called for outlawing abortion and penalizing women who defy the ban. His campaign later clarified the statement, claiming that the real-estate mogul favors punishing abortion doctors rather than women.
