John Kasich should end his bid for the Republican presidential nomination, Donald Trump said last week while campaigning in Wisconsin.
The billionaire businessman complained that the Ohio governor “is taking my votes,” The Associated Press reported. He pointed out that Kasich’s lone victory in the GOP primaries was in his home state, and that it is statistically impossible for the candidate to earn the required number of national-convention delegates.
“Kasich shouldn’t be allowed to continue, and the (Republican National Committee) shouldn’t allow him to continue,” Trump said, according to The New York Times. “Frankly, Kasich right now, he’s got one win and 29 losses and he shouldn’t even be in it. … Rand Paul could’ve stayed in and he had nothing. Marco Rubio could have stayed in, Jeb Bush could have stayed in. ... They all could have stayed in. They could have just stayed in. That’s all he’s doing.”
Trump told reporters that he called the nominating process “very unfair” during his recent meeting with RNC Chairman Reince Priebus and other party officials. “I said, ‘Why is a guy allowed to run?’ All he’s doing is just, he goes from place to place, and loses, and he keeps on running.”
The Hill noted that Trump, during Sunday night’s town hall event on Fox News, declared: “I actually think (Kasich) hurts me more than he hurts (Texas Sen. Ted) Cruz, if you want to know the truth.” Cruz is second to Trump in the battle for delegates to the convention in July.
