Trump Threatens Prosecution For Anyone Behind Leak Of U.K. Intelligence To Media

After the tragic bombing of the Manchester Arena last week, things have only taken a turn for the worse as ties between the U.K. and the U.S. were strained. An American source leaked sensitive information about the bombing that British intelligence hadn't intended to share. The British Prime Minister says she intends to bring up concerns with NATO, as Trump vows he'll find the culprit.

The White House was left red-faced after an American source leaked British intelligence about the bombing in Manchester to American reporters. Evidence such as images of the bomber's blood-smeared backpack remnants was made public during the investigation. Trump has ordered the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate the leaks.

"The alleged leaks coming out of government agencies are deeply troubling," said President Trump. "These leaks have been going on for a long time and my Administration will get to the bottom of this. The leaks of sensitive information pose a grave threat to our national security."

The Trump administration has been plagued by leaks since the president took office. Private White House meetings and transcripts of the president's conversations with world leaders have been released to the public without authorization. Such leaks have not only threatened the Trump administration but national security.

"I am asking the Department of Justice and other relevant agencies to launch a complete review of this matter, and if appropriate, the culprit should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," Mr. Trump continued.

"These leaks were reprehensible, deeply distressing," said Britain charge d'affaires Lewis Lukens, according to the New York Times. "We unequivocally condemn them."

The tension between the U.S. and U.K. over the leaked bombing information increased when Prime Minister Theresa May warned that they threatened the relationship between the two nations. Trump's trying desperately to diffuse the situation.

"There is no relationship we cherish more than the Special Relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom," he explained.
