Trump Threatens ‘to Go to War’ With Cruz

Donald Trump rarely criticizes rival Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz, but he suggested Monday his strategy could change due to the Texas senator’s rise in the polls.

“If he catches on, I guess we’ll have to go to war,” the GOP front-runner declared on CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” adding: “We’ll see what happens, but so far we haven’t. He’s been very supportive; we have a lot of the same ideas. He’s been very nice and supportive of everything I’ve said, more than anybody else.”

Cruz is one of the few candidates who has not come against Trump’s proposal to deport all of the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants living illegally in the United States. The Hill noted that the two White House hopefuls agree on many issues, including border security and their opposition to the Iran nuclear agreement.

“I salute Donald Trump for focusing on the need to address illegal immigration,” the senator said in July. “I like Donald Trump. He is bold, he is brash. He has a colorful way of speaking, and it’s not my way of speaking, but I salute him.”

According to RealClearPolitics, which averages the findings of national polls, 24.3 percent of Republican voters back Trump. Cruz has 14 percent percent, placing him fourth behind Trump, retired brain surgeon Ben Carson and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio.
