Trump Spokeswoman Calls for Using Nuclear Weapons

More controversy concerning Donald Trump erupted last week, when a spokeswoman for the Republican presidential front-runner declared that the United States should not be “afraid to use” nuclear weapons.

During an appearance on Fox News’ “The O’Reilly Factor,” Katrina Pierson criticized GOP politicians who advocate “perpetual wars” but are reluctant to commit to going nuclear, Mediate reported. “What is the point in having a good nuclear triad if you are afraid to use it?” she asked. “That’s where we are today. We need to be discussing how to fix these problems, not just complaining.”

The Daily Mail described Pierson as a conservative activist from North Texas who frequently does television interviews to promote Trump’s White House bid and defend his proposals. Her suggestion met with opposition from another guest on the show, Kurt Schlichter. “The point of the nuclear triad is to be afraid to use the damn thing,” he argued. “You want to scare the hell out of the other side. And frankly, my side will be more scared if Donald Trump gets his finger on the button.”

The nuclear triad consists of bombers, intercontinental ballistic missiles and submarine-launched ballistic missiles.

Many people reacted negatively to Pierson’s comments on social media, according to the New York Daily News.
