Trump Slams Media for Analyzing Melania's Speech More Than Clinton Emails

Donald Trump suggested Wednesday that the controversy over his wife’s speech at the Republican National Convention could help his White House bid.

“Good news is Melania’s speech got more publicity than any in the history of politics, especially if you believe that all press is good press,” the Republican presidential nominee wrote on Twitter. He quickly followed up with another message stating: “The media is spending more time doing a forensic analysis of Melania’s speech than the FBI spent on Hillary’s emails.”

Trump was referring to the agency’s recent investigation of Clinton’s use of a private email server when she was secretary of state. While FBI Director James Comey recommended no criminal charges, he accused Clinton of having been “extremely careless.”

Melania Trump’s speech contained major portions of the remarks Michelle Obama made at the Democratic National Convention eight years ago. Though the Trump campaign claims it was not a case of plagiarism, the language was almost identical.

The candidate’s aides explained: “In writing her beautiful speech, Melania’s team of writers took notes on her life’s inspirations, and in some instances included fragments that reflected her own thinking. Melania’s immigrant experience and love for America shone through in her speech, which made it such a success.” Trump spokeswoman Katrina Pierson said the idea “that Michelle Obama invented the English language is absurd.”
