Trump Says Jeb Bush Might Have Won GOP Nomination in 2012

Donald Trump declared Sunday that Jeb Bush would have been a more successful candidate if he launched a White House bid in 2012 rather than this year, The Hill reported.

The former Florida governor ended his campaign Saturday night after placing fourth among five candidates in South Carolina’s Republican primary. “Jeb fought very hard,” Trump said on CNN’s “State of the Union,” adding: “It wasn’t his time, that’s all. He’s a very capable person. It wasn’t his time. You know, four years ago, I think he would have won. Although, it would have been – with Mitt (Romney) and him — it would have been a good contest. But this was not really his time.”

Asked whether Bush’s failure is a repudiation of his family’s political dynasty, Trump responded: “I hope not, because it shouldn’t be. It wasn’t meant to be. And, you know, I know the family. My son knows his son, and my son Eric knows his son, Jeb’s son, and he says he’s an incredible young man. And, you know, it was really just not his time.”

During the campaign in South Carolina, Trump accused George W. Bush of lying about Iraq having “weapons of mass destruction.” He also said the former president could have prevented 9/11 by ordering the assassination of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden before the attacks.
