Trump Rips Cruz, Questions Iowa Caucus Results

Donald Trump, who has accused Ted Cruz of stealing the Iowa caucuses, proclaimed Wednesday night: “Actually, I think I came in first.”

The billionaire businessman was campaigning in Little Rock, Ark., where he drew a crowd of more than 11,500 people, according to The New York Times. Trump finished second in Iowa with 24.3 percent of the vote. Cruz won with 27.6 percent support.

Trump, in his tweets and speeches, is slamming Cruz for the tactics his staff and supporters used in the caucuses. The senator’s campaign released a mailer threatening Iowans that they could be charged with a “voter violation” if they did not turn out for the election.

Iowa Congressman Steve King, one of Cruz’s national co-chairmen, falsely tweeted that voters backing Ben Carson should switch to Cruz because the retired neurosurgeon was about to end his presidential bid.

Trump argued that the Iowa caucuses should be conducted a second time, and threatened to sue the Cruz campaign. The senator responded: “Mr. Trump finds it very hard to lose.” He said the real-estate tycoon was having another one of his “Trumper tantrums.”

Cruz suggested that Trump cannot be trusted with the powers of the presidency. “We’re liable to wake up one morning and Donald, if he were president, would have nuked Denmark,” he said Wednesday at a rally in New Hampshire. “That’s not the temperament of a leader to keep this country safe.”
