Trump: 'From This Moment On, It's Going To Be America First'

Donald Trump, continuing the populist theme of his presidential campaign, proclaimed in Friday’s inaugural address that “we are transferring power from Washington, D.C., and giving it back to you, the people.”

Upon becoming the nation’s 45th president, Trump promised to launch “a great national effort to rebuild our country and restore its promise for all of our people,” according to The Hill. He vowed to protect the United States from terrorists and reduce the “American carnage” that results from crime.

“From this moment on, it’s going to be America first,” the new commander-in-chief declared. “I will fight for you with every breath in my body, and I will never, ever let you down. America will start winning again, winning like never before.”

In the ceremony at the U.S. Capitol, Trump received the oath of office from Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts. While repeating the 35-word pledge, Trump held his hand on his own Bible. He also had a Bible that Abraham Lincoln owned.

Reaching out to his critics, Trump expressed hope that “through our loyalty to our country, we will rediscover our loyalty to each other.” He explained: “Whether we are black or brown or white, we all bleed the same red blood of patriots, we all enjoy the same glorious freedoms, and we all salute the same great American flag.”

The president told his worldwide audience that “we will not fail; our country will thrive and prosper again.” He added: “Do not let anyone tell you it cannot be done. No challenge can match the heart and fight and spirit of America.”
