Trump Launches Campaign Swing Through Three States

Bolstered by polls showing he is the clear front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, Donald Trump is trying to maintain his momentum by making multiple campaign appearances this week.

The real-estate developer plans to speak at events in Iowa, New Hampshire and Michigan, The Hill reported. According to a newly released poll of GOP voters in the three states, he has 19 percent support. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and retired pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Carson are tied for second place at 12 percent.

The survey, by Public Policy Polling, is one of several polls conducted since last week’s Republican candidates’ debate that indicate Trump’s performance in the event helped his presidential prospects.

“Time and time again, people have underestimated Donald Trump, and they do so at their own peril,” said Corey Lewandowski, the candidate’s campaign manager. He claimed that the billionaire’s improving poll numbers prove that voters “want to hear a straight talker who can tell them how to fix the country.”

The Hill noted that Trump continues to lead the other 16 GOP White House hopefuls despite widespread criticism of his remarks about Megyn Kelly. The Fox News moderator challenged him during the debate about derogatory comments he has directed at various women. The following day, the businessman said on CNN: “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes; blood coming out of her wherever.”
