Trump: It's Time For Campaign To Go 'A Different Route’

Donald Trump told Fox News that he fired his controversial campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, on Monday because it is time for “a different kind of campaign.”

The aide is “a good man” who was responsible for a “small, beautiful, well-unified campaign” during the Republican primaries and caucuses, according to Trump. Now, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee explained, “we’re going to go a different route.”

Lewandowski became expendable when the billionaire businessman hired longtime political strategist Paul Manafort in March, a Trump staffer revealed to Fox News. The campaign manager came under fire for allegedly shoving a Breitbart News reporter at a rally. Police who investigated the incident declined to file charges.

Trump told program host Bill O’Reilly that his campaign is still well staffed. “We have tremendous people; we have tremendous talent,” he said, hinting that he might name some choices for his presidential Cabinet before Republicans hold their national convention next month.

However, Trump pledged to wait until the event in Cleveland, Ohio, to reveal his vice-presidential nominee. He vowed to select a running mate with “great judgment” who has been successful “in the world of politics.” He has previously said that he needs a partner with experience “getting things done” on Capitol Hill.
