Trump: 'Illegal Immigrants Are Voting All Over The Country'

Donald Trump, refusing to back down from his widely debunked claim that voter fraud is a widespread problem, declared Monday: “Illegal immigrants are voting all over the country.”

The Huffington Post reported that the Republican presidential nominee told Fox News: “There is tremendous voter fraud, and how Republican leadership doesn’t see that is beyond me. So many cities are corrupt and voter fraud is all too common.”

According to election officials and many news-media sources, the number of fraud cases at U.S. polling places has been extremely low. Experts also have pointed out that U.S. citizenship is required to qualify to become a registered voter.

Trump cited a recent blog post in The Washington Times, in which two political scientists wrote that “non-citizens” may have determined the results in the 2008 Minnesota Senate election, which Democrat Al Franken won; and that year’s presidential race in North Carolina, where Barack Obama got the most votes.

HuffPost noted that the voters identified as non-citizens might not have been undocumented immigrants. The news site reported that the blog post has come under fire for having been based on a random survey instead of a scientific poll.

Trump continues to insist that the electoral process is “rigged” in favor of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
