Trump In Hot Water Over What He Was Busted Doing During Hurricane Harvey

President Donald Trump touched down in Texas on Tuesday to witness firsthand the devastation that Harvey has wrought. The commander-in-chief has been going out of his way to make sure his administration stays on top of relief efforts in relation to the storm, and all signs point to outstanding work being done thus far. As Yahoo shares, Trump is hoping that the response to Harvey will be strong enough to serve as a blueprint for efforts related to future natural disasters.

Trump and his team visited with local officials and volunteers in Corpus Christi, and he stopped at a fire station in the area to meet with Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott and others. He delivered some brief remarks while praising the overall efforts and response to the massive storm.

“We want to be looked at five years, ten years from now, as this is the way to do it,” Trump said.

Also in tow with the president were First Lady Melania Trump, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson, and Small Business administrator Linda McMahon, among others. The purpose of the relatively large delegation was to cover as much ground as possible while addressing all of the key areas that will need to be addressed in the aftermath of the storm. Critics have attempted to portray Trump’s visit as a photo op, but it’s quite clear that the trip was all business.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders explained to reporters that traveled with the president that the trip was intended to “lay the foundation for what we know is going to be a long recovery effort.”

Abbott has had nothing but praise for Trump and his administration, noting that the response has been "very effective."

“We’ll congratulate each other when it’s all finished,” Trump said while praising Abbott’s leadership.

Earlier this week, Trump promised that there will be no delays in funding for disaster relief efforts.

“The real number, which will be many billions of dollars, will go through Congress,” he said. “It will happen very quickly.”

Quite simply, Trump and his administration have done a fantastic job getting things together, and the commander-in-chief has demonstrated the leadership that’s needed at times of national crisis. Abbott deserves a ton of praise as well, as he’s done an admirable job of providing the necessary leadership for residents that are dealing with an unfathomable natural disaster.

In addition to the praise for the leaders, not enough can be said about the impressive response from first responders, members of the National Guard, ordinary citizens, FEMA workers, and anyone else that has had a hand in helping out those in peril. While it’s hard to find a positive when so many families have had their lives upended, the amazing images of complete strangers coming together to help those in peril are nothing short of moving.

Harvey is a disaster of historic proportions, but we can take some small solace in the fact that the wheels are in motion for a successful cleanup operation and relief efforts.
