Trump Getting Rid Of Special Military Code Word - Obama Won’t Be Happy

Despite the fact that most people and news outlets referred to the Islamic State extremist Muslim terrorist group as ISIS, former President Barack Obama insisted on calling it ‘ISIL.’ There is a reason behind that one letter difference, and President Trump isn't having it.

The former POTUS would never use the term ISIS, meaning the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. Rather, he seemed to cling to the term ISIL, meaning the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant. Political pundits have debated his reason behind his choice, and behind his pushing his choice of terms with the Pentagon.

Some speculate that much of it has to do with Israel. If you're looking at a map of the Middle East, the Levant covers a much broader territory that covers multiple nations between Turkey and Egypt; one of these nations is Israel.

The former president has always shown more sympathy towards Muslims and seemed to hold back disdain for Israel. Before even taking office, the L.A. Times reported having a tape where a young Obama said that 'Israel has no God-given right to occupy Palestine', and accused the Israelis of committing genocide against Palestinians. Throughout his presidency, he was known for being anti-Israel, and his second term ended on him turning his back on Israel in the UN.

By using the term ISIL, he implies Israel is part of the Islamic state, and Islamic territory.

“So if I’m ISIS, and I hear the president say ‘you’re really ISIL’ and ‘I’m kind of wishy-washy on that whole Israel thing,’ you’re on my side,” said conservative talk show host Glen Beck. “or him to say ‘ISIL’ is sending a message overseas to them: ‘I know who you are. I’m not doing anything, I’m not doing anything.’”

In addition, by leaving off the last ‘S,’ Mr. Obama is able to avoid directly calling out Syria. The former president had been very unwilling to engage terrorists in Syria.

Now that President Trump has taken office, ISIL is being nixed in favor of ISIS.

“We have officially switched to ISIS,” announced Pentagon spokesperson Capt. Jeff Davis on Friday.

Despite the former president's insistence on ISIL, Davis notes the Pentagon unofficially referred to the terrorist group as ISIS for years.
