Trump Gets Bad News About His Wiretap Tweet, Here's What Could Happen Next

Ever since President Trump was sworn in as the 45th President of the United States, a certain word has been casually thrown around by Trump detractors. In fact, some detractors started throwing that word around once it became clear he was about to pull off a shocking upset victory over Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. That word would be impeachment, and the vast majority of people that have been throwing it around believe that extraordinary step can be taken simply because they don’t like Trump.

When pressed for details about the grounds for impeachment proceedings, those that throw the word around will typically move onto their next talking point. However, they may now have some information that will help them better form their arguments. As Bloomberg shares, that information comes courtesy of Trump himself, who just may have been a bit too overzealous while posting on social media this weekend.

In the wee hours of Saturday morning, Trump threw out a couple of bombshells out there that managed to completely upend the news cycle.

“How low has President Obama gone to tapp my phones during the very sacred election process. This is Nixon/Watergate. Bad (or sick) guy!” read one post.

Trump provided no reasoning or basis for his startling claims, but speculation has centered on him receiving his information from a right-leaning website that had posted similar allegations against the Obama administration. He was roundly blasted by critics and neutral observers alike for flippantly making the claims on social media, and people are riled up enough about it that it could turn into a long-term problem for the president.

In essence, if his allegations are proven to be blatantly false, he’s exposed himself on a number of fronts. While a libel suit is unlikely against a sitting present, using false allegations to help form the basis of an impeachment inquiry is not. We’ll have to wait and see what kind of investigations are opened up over the allegations, but in the meantime, perhaps Trump can be a bit more careful with what he posts on social media in the wee hours of the morning.
