Trump Encourages Employers To ‘Hire American’

Despite his own habit of employing foreign workers, Donald Trump is demanding that other business owners “hire American,” The Hill reported.

The president-elect promised during his campaign to create more jobs for U.S. workers by pressuring companies to keep their operations in the country. He also pledged to cancel or renegotiate international trade agreements that result in U.S. job losses. Since winning the election, Trump has claimed credit for two businesses having scrapped plans to move jobs to Mexico or elsewhere. He also is encouraging companies to reduce the amount of money they charge the government for various projects.

“Remember years ago, we used to proudly display 'Made in the USA' ... We don’t see it,” Trump told his fans at a recent rally. “I don’t see it anymore. We ought to start doing that. Any of the manufacturers that were doing a lot of talking to a lot of companies that were thinking about leaving, and I tell ya, I don’t think they’re going to be leaving so fast anymore.”

However, the Trump Organization reportedly continues to hire foreign workers at the Trump Winery in Virginia and the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. According to The Hill, the U.S. Department of Labor is backing Trump’s request for six additional H-2 work visas for non-American employees at the winery. In early December, a report surfaced indicating that the real-estate mogul planned to hire more foreigners at Mar-a-Lago.
