Trump Demands Prison Time For Top Clinton Associate

A longtime Hillary Clinton aide should be jailed for having forwarded State Department emails, President Trump declared Monday.

According to RawStory, the president was responding to a report by the Daily Caller, a conservative news site that accused Huma Abedin of sending the documents. She allegedly disclosed government passwords and other sensitive information, using her own Yahoo account, and the email provider was hacked four years later. The company acknowledged that “all Yahoo user accounts were affected” by the cyberattack.

“Crooked Hillary Clinton’s top aide, Huma Abedin, has been accused of disregarding basic security protocols,” Trump tweeted.

“She put Classified Passwords into the hands of foreign agents. Remember sailors pictures on submarine? Jail! Deep State Justice Dept must finally act? Also on Comey & others.”

The president was referring to Navy sailor Kristian Saucier, who ended up behind bars for snapping pictures inside a nuclear submarine; and former FBI Director James Comey. After Trump fired Comey in May, he admitted he was trying to thwart the bureau’s probe of possible collusion between the president’s campaign and Russia to interfere in the 2016 election. “Deep state” is a term for government personnel opposed to the Trump administration.

The president wants the Justice Department to investigate Clinton, as well. He and other Republicans still believe she should face prosecution for her use of a private email server as secretary of state, because she risked leaking government secrets. Clinton’s critics also think she deserves scrutiny for her fundraising activities on behalf of the Clinton Foundation, due to concerns that donors may have received favors from the State Department.

Raw Story suggested that the president should look in the mirror before slamming others for revealing classified government information. The news site recalled that the day after he fired Comey, Trump turned over an intelligence report about ISIS to Russia’s foreign minister and ambassador to the United States. The document, compiled by Israeli spies, described the terrorist group’s alleged plan to create a laptop bomb that could be detonated on airplanes.

Fox News reported that on Friday, the State Department released the emails from Abedin’s account that FBI agents found on a laptop. The computer had been used by Anthony Weiner, Abedin’s estranged husband, whose political career came crashing down after he sent sexually explicit pictures to an underage girl. At least four of the documents were tagged as “classified,” according to officials.

Comey, during his testimony before a congressional committee last year, accused Abedin of forwarding the emails to Weiner because she wanted him to print them out for Clinton to see. The FBI reopened its investigation of the former secretary of state’s email practices after agents discovered the documents on the laptop several weeks before the 2016 election.

Clinton and her associates have accused the bureau of undermining her chances of winning the election. Earlier in the race, Comey said Clinton had been “extremely careless” in handling classified government information while she headed the State Department.

However, he advised the Justice Department to file no charges against her. Republican-led congressional committees also were unable to uncover sufficient evidence to prosecute Clinton.
