Trump Declares ‘We’re at War’ With Muslims

Donald Trump continues to defend his controversial proposal to reject all Muslim immigrants who try to enter the United States, even though many people are calling the Republican presidential front-runner a bigot and comparing him with Adolf Hitler.

“We’re at war. Get it through your head,” the real-estate mogul told CNN host Chris Cuomo. He backed down a bit from his original remarks, explaining that he would ban Muslim immigration only “temporarily” until he is confident authorities have sufficient screening procedures in place.

During an appearance on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” Trump said Muslims who are U.S. citizens should be permitted to return home if they leave the country. That contradicted a spokesman for his campaign, who earlier told The Hill that the proposed ban would affect “everyone.” When ABC host George Stephanopoulos asked Trump whether the Hitler comparisons upset him, he answered simply: “No.”

On MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” the candidate likened his plan to the internment camps President Franklin Roosevelt established for Japanese Americans following the bombing of Pearl Harbor. However, he stressed that he is is “not proposing that” for Muslims, adding: “This is a whole different thing.”

The Hill reported that many Republicans are slamming Trump’s anti-Muslim proposals, including his idea of creating a national database to track all Americans who follow Islam. Still, the billionaire’s GOP critics vow to support whoever wins the party’s nomination.
