Trump Congratulates Gingrich For Slamming Fox News Anchor

After Newt Gingrich clashed with Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly on Tuesday, Donald Trump praised the former House speaker for the “amazing interview.”

The discussion became contentious when Kelly asked Gingrich, a Trump adviser and campaign surrogate, to defend the Republican presidential nominee’s alleged sexual abuse of women. Gingrich responded: “You are fascinated with sex and you don’t care about public policy.”

Kelly fired back: “Listen, Mr. Speaker, I’m not fascinated by sex, but I am fascinated by the protection of women and understanding what we’re getting in the Oval Office. … You can take your anger issues and spend some time working on them, Mr. Speaker.” Gingrich replied: “You, too.”

The Georgia Republican criticized the news media for reporting extensively on allegations by about a dozen women that Trump inappropriately kissed or groped them. Gingrich argued that WikiLeaks’ recent release of hacked emails from Clinton campaign manager John Podesta should be receiving more coverage.

Trump mentioned the heated exchange the following day, during his speech at the opening of his newly constructed hotel in Washington, D.C. “Congratulations, Newt, on last night, that was an amazing interview,” he said. “We don’t play games, Newt, right?”

Gingrich was speaker of the House in the 1990s, during Bill Clinton’s presidency. He is a former GOP presidential candidate.
