Trump: Claims That Russia Interfered With The Election Is ‘Ridiculous’

Donald Trump, when asked Sunday whether Russian operatives influenced the presidential election, declared “I don’t believe it.”

According to The Guardian, the president-elect told Fox News that Democrats are making the allegation to provide an explanation for Hillary Clinton’s surprising defeat. “Every week it’s another excuse,” Trump said. Business Insider reported that he added: “I think the Democrats are putting it out because they suffered one of the greatest defeats in the history of politics in this country, and it’s ridiculous.”

On Friday, The Washington Post reported that the CIA had accused the Russian government of giving WikiLeaks hacked emails from the Democratic National Committee and Clinton’s campaign staff, while declining to release Republican emails obtained in cyber attacks. Intelligence officers also have suggested that Russia could have hacked voting machines to enable Trump to win the electoral votes in several battleground states.

President Obama has ordered a “full review” of the charges. Trump remarked that “nobody really knows” whether Russia tried to affect the election results. “Once they hack, if you don’t catch them in the act you’re not going to catch them,” he said. “They have no idea if it’s Russia or China or somebody. It could be somebody sitting in a bed some place.”

The FBI warned before the election that the Russian government was attempting to help Trump win.
