Trump Claims He Would Hire Better National-Security Advisers

President Obama’s intelligence officials are failing to protect the country from terrorism, according to Donald Trump.

Politico reported that the Republican presidential nominee was asked during a Fox News interview Tuesday night whether he trusts the administration on national security. He responded: “Not so much from the people that have been doing it for our country. I mean, look what’s happened over the last 10 years. Look what’s happened over the years. It’s been catastrophic; and, in fact, I won’t use some of the people that are sort of your standards, you know, just use them, use them, use them, very easy to use them, but I won’t use them because they’ve made such bad decisions.”

Trump said that if he becomes president, he will rely on advisers like retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who joined him for an intelligence briefing at the FBI on Wednesday. The candidate called Flynn “a great guy,” explaining: “I’ve gotten to know him. He’s been a real fan of mine and defender of mine, and he’s a terrific guy, a terrific general — tough, smart; feels like I do about illegal immigration, in particular.”

Flynn “wants to make sure the right people are coming into our country, not the people that we’re probably taking in right now,” according to Trump. The nominee added: “We don’t even know who we’re taking in. I mean, we have people coming into our country, we have no idea who they are, where they come from, and he’s somebody that I believe in.”

Trump slammed the Obama administration for its policies concerning the Middle East, which he called “a total powder keg.”
