Trump Calls It ‘Common Sense’ to Profile Muslims

Law-enforcement officers should use profiling techniques targeting Muslims to help prevent terrorist attacks in the United States, according to Donald Trump.

CNN reported that the presumptive Republican presidential nominee declared Sunday on “Face the Nation” on CBS: “I think profiling is something that we’re going to have to start thinking about as a country. We really have to look at profiling. We have to look at it seriously. And other countries do it, and it’s not the worst thing to do. I hate the concept of profiling, but we have to use common sense. We’re not using common sense.”

Trump has vowed, if he wins the election in November, to temporarily ban Muslims from immigrating to the United States. He also proposes the surveillance of mosques and the creation of a national database to monitor Muslim Americans.

Many of the billionaire businessman’s critics, including a number of Republicans, have called his ideas bigoted. That has not stopped Trump, who told CBS in December following the mass shooting in San Bernardino, Calif.: “People are dead. A lot of people are dead right now. So, everybody wants to be politically correct. And that’s part of the problem that we have with our country.”
