Trump: Brokered GOP Convention Would Be ‘Unfair’ To Him

Donald Trump says it “would be pretty unfair” for the Republicans to hold a brokered convention to deny him the party’s presidential nomination, The Hill reported.

The convention could be contentious if none of the GOP candidates earns the 1,237 delegates needed to ensure victory. When Trump was asked on Fox News if it would be wrong for someone else to get the nomination even if he has the most delegates, he replied: “Yeah, I sort of do. I think that whoever is leading at the end should sort of get it. That’s the way that democracy works. I don’t know that that’s going to happen. But I’ll tell you, there are going to be a lot of people that will be very upset if that doesn’t happen.”

Trump expanded his lead this week with victories in several state Republican primaries. His top rival, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, is far behind. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is hoping that a first-place finish in his home state next week will revive his struggling campaign.

Trump boasted that he has expanded the party’s base by attracting new voters. “There’s life now in the Republican Party,” he said. Referring to negative ads his rivals have been running against him, the billionaire businessman added: “It bothers me in the sense that it’s really not fair.”
