Trump Blames Obama For North Korea

President Trump is trying to make the case that his predecessor in the White House allowed the North Korea situation to reach this point. He claims that it's because the Obama administration allowed North Korea to develop nuclear weapons.

Newsmax reported that, on Wednesday, Trump retweeted a pair of messages alleging that former President Obama should have made more of an effort to rein in North Korea’s volatile ruler, Kim Jong-Un. The first post, written by John Bolton, stated: “Our country & civilians are vulnerable today because @BarackObama did not believe in national missile defense. Let’s never forget that.” Bolton was the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations while President George W. Bush was in office.

The second retweeted message, from Jesse Watters of Fox News’ “The Five,” declared that Trump’s habit of “being unpredictable is a big asset; North Korea knew exactly what President Obama was going to do.” Trump described Obama’s approach to North Korea as a “total failure.” The Independent reported that the following morning, Trump boasted about a Twitter poll in which 61 percent of respondents said he is “a better president” than Obama. Thirty-nine percent chose the ex-president.

The administration is under pressure to respond to escalating provocations by Kim, who has overseen numerous tests of intercontinental ballistic missiles in recent months. The North Korean strongman, who previously vowed to develop a nuclear weapon capable of reaching the U.S. mainland, is now threatening to attack an American military base in Guam by the middle of this month. The U.S. territory is just 2,131 miles from North Korea.

Trump, who is in the midst of a 17-day break he dubbed a “working vacation,” was playing golf in New Jersey when Kim issued his latest warning. The president reacted by pledging to hit North Korea with “fire and fury … and power.” Many Democrats, as well as Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona, accused Trump of inflaming an already tense confrontation. Undeterred, the president retweeted a story by “Fox & Friends” about Defense Secretary James Mattis having told Kim that North Korea is “grossly unmatched” in challenging the United States.

Trump also used Twitter to once again lash out at lawmakers for failing to approve Obamacare reforms. Earlier this summer, the House of Representatives passed the Republican-sponsored American Health Care Act, which would have significantly altered Obama’s Affordable Care Act. Senate GOP leaders ignored the bill, instead drafting new legislation that failed on a 51-49 vote. McCain and two other Republican senators, Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, joined all of the chamber’s Democrats in voting against the measure. Trump has called on the Senate to come up with a new bill.

Throughout his presidential campaign, Trump promised his supporters he would “repeal and replace” Obamacare, which he called a ‘disaster.” Many Republican members of Congress also made the issue a major component of their campaigns in recent elections. However, thousands of the lawmakers’ constituents packed “town hall” meetings earlier this year to oppose Obamacare repeal. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office projected that the Senate bill would have resulted in more than 30 million low-income and working-class Americans losing access to affordable health insurance.
