Trump Aide Quits Campaign Because Of Her Racist Remarks

A Donald Trump staffer in Ohio stepped down Thursday after coming under fire for saying it is African-Americans’ “own fault” if they fail to succeed.

The Hill reported that Bob Paduchik, the Republican presidential nominee’s political director in the key swing state, announced he had accepted the resignation of Mahoning County campaign chairwoman Kathy Miller because of her “inappropriate comments.” Paduchik stressed that county chairmen are “volunteers … not spokespeople for the campaign.”

Miller acknowledged that her remarks were “inappropriate,” and said she was not representing the views of the candidate. She expressed regret for having told the Guardian: “I don’t think there was any racism until Obama got elected. We never had problems like this. If you’re black and you haven’t been successful in the last 50 years, it’s your own fault. You’ve had every opportunity. It was given to you.”

Mahoning County is among the 10 Ohio counties with the most registered voters. Statewide, Trump has a narrow lead over Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. Both candidates consider Ohio crucial to their White House hopes.

The Hill noted that the Miller controversy is not helping Trump’s efforts to win over African-Americans. One recent poll indicated that only 1 percent of black voters nationwide supported him.
