Trump Adviser Thinks President Should Reach Out To Bill Clinton For Help

There are certain folks you wouldn’t expect to be able to put aside their differences to work together for the greater good. The Hatfields and McCoys come to mind, as do the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote. However, if those rivals and others like them were able to see past their differences, they may just be able to capture lightning in a bottle.

As Newsmax shares, a person close to President Donald Trump has suggested one of those scenarios that’ll make your head spin. Larry Kudlow, a veteran economist and CNBC senior correspondent, has advised Trump on a number of things, and he recently offered up another suggestion for the commander-in-chief. He thinks that Trump should reach out to former President Bill Clinton for some help in tweaking things such as welfare to work programs and national education.

"[There are] vocational schools for technology and trade and fixing things and working with local companies. We have one going on, oddly enough, in the diocese of Fairfield Bridgeport in Connecticut. We're doing a vocational training program with local businesses. This is terrific stuff,” Kudlow explained. "You train them, and you're going to have to add to that some brand new welfare reforms and eligibility to move people off welfare to workfare.”

That sounds like a fantastic program, and Kudlow thinks Trump should reach out to Clinton for help rolling it out on a national level.

"I suggested when I was in the West Wing last week . . . to [Trump's] top people, why not put a call to Bill Clinton and say 'look, Mr. President, we are in effect going to continue the work you and [former House Speaker] Newt Gingrich did 20 plus years ago because the system needs to be re-reformed',” Kudlow added. “It's falling apart."

So why Clinton? Kudlow came armed with reasons, and it makes perfect sense.

"Give Bill Clinton credit ... John F. Kennedy cut taxes first. A Democrat. Bill Clinton was a leader in welfare reform with Newt and the Republican Congress,” Kudlow continued. "They worked together. It was a path-breaking bill and contrary to what the naysayers said on both the left and the right millions of people went back to work. Instead of dying in the streets, they went back to work. Abled body men and women could go back to work."

While it sounds crazy to suggest that Trump and Clinton could actually work together on something like this, it’s not as outlandish as it sounds. This is an issue that both sides of the aisle can easily get behind, and there’s absolutely no need for partisan politics to play a role in it. Jobs, the economy, and less people subsisting off of public assistance are things that benefit the nation as a whole.

Who in their right mind can take issue with a system that’s designed to actually improve the lives of those in need? No one, that’s who. The country wins, both parties come out smelling like roses, and they can continue butting heads over everything else. While it’s unlikely to happen, it’s certainly nice to dream about it.
