Trump Accused Of 'Not Being Presidential'

Donald Trump should start acting like a real president, according to a Fox News host.

Yahoo News reported that the television network’s Neil Cavuto slammed Trump for his recent tweets criticizing an Arizona senator and the father of a college basketball player. “Forget about either comment not being presidential,” Cavuto told his viewers. “At what point does the president see such remarks don’t even border on being human?”

The host was reacting to Trump’s war of words with LaVar Ball, whose son was one of three UCLA athletes who spent time behind bars in China on shoplifting charges. The father disputed the president’s claim that he secured the players’ release by contacting the Chinese leader. Trump fired back: “LaVar Ball, the father of LiAngelo, is unaccepting of what I did for his son and that shoplifting is no big deal. I should have left them in jail!”

Trump also lashed out at Republican Sen. Jeff Flake, who was recently caught on tape predicting that “the party of Roy Moore and Donald Trump (is) toast.” The lawmaker was referring to the GOP candidate for U.S. Senate from Alabama, whom multiple women have accused of sexual harassment and assault. Trump responded by tweeting: “Sen. Jeff Flake(y), who is unelectable in the Great State of Arizona (quit race, anemic polls) was caught (purposely) on ‘mike’ saying bad things about your favorite president. He’ll be a NO on tax cuts because his political career anyway is ‘toast.’” Flake is not seeking re-election in the 2018 midterm congressional elections.

Cavuto accused Trump of “using a bazooka to respond to a pea shooter,” and demanding “gratitude bordering on groveling.” The conservative commentator pointed out that the three UCLA players have expressed their appreciation to the president for getting them out of jail. “You wanted a thank you, you got it. You wanted a reason to go after a senator you hate, you pounced on it. But last time I checked you are the president of the United States. Why don’t you act like it?” Cavuto asked.

Yahoo News noted that the right-wing Fox News has been one of Trump’s few defenders in the national news media. However, Cavuto has spoken out against Trump several times. In June, the host challenged the president’s criticism of the media. Last month, he ridiculed the ongoing fight between Trump and Republican Sen. Bob Corker. The Tennessee lawmaker, who plans to retire from Congress at the end of 2018, has not minced words in ripping the president.

On Sunday, Flake spokesman Jason Samuels denied Trump’s claim that the lawmaker had decided to vote against GOP-sponsored legislation to revamp the tax code. “The senator is still reviewing the tax-reform bill on its merits,” Samuels told CNN. “How he votes on it will have nothing to do with the president.”

In October, Flake said Trump was creating an “alarming and dangerous state of affairs.” He declared on the Senate floor that the president had shown a “flagrant disregard for truth or decency” and brought on a “regular and casual undermining of our democratic norms.”
