Trump: ‘We’ll Work Something Out’ to Provide Health Care

Donald Trump agrees with Bernie Sanders that the federal government should guarantee health insurance to all Americans, though his approach to the issue differs from the Democrat’s proposal, according to Newsmax.

Sanders has long advocated a single-payer, “Medicare-for-all” system that would eliminate private insurance premiums. Trump once made the same argument, suggesting the United States should adopt a program similar to those in Canada and England. Now, as a contender for the Republican presidential nomination, he is choosing his words more carefully.

"I want people taken care of. I have a heart,” the billionaire businessman said Sunday on “This Week” on ABC. “If somebody has no money and they’re lying in the middle of the street and they’re dying, I’m going to take care of that person.”

Trump explained that “we’ve got to do something,” adding: “You can’t have a small percentage of our economy, because they’re down and out, have absolutely no protection so they end up dying from, you know, what you could have a simple procedure or even a pill. You can’t do that. We’ll work something out.”

He said he would work with doctors and hospitals, rather than implementing a single-payer approach, according to Newsmax.

Trump bashed rival GOP candidate Ted Cruz for opposing a government role in expanding access to health insurance. “Maybe he’s got no heart,” the real-estate mogul said. “And if this means I lose an election, that’s fine, because, frankly, we have to take care of the people in our country. We can’t let them die on the sidewalks of New York or the sidewalks of Iowa or anywhere else.”
