Top Democratic Aide: Clinton Should ‘Reconsider’ Doing Last Debate

A prominent Democratic operative is suggesting that Hillary Clinton should refuse to attend Wednesday night’s presidential debate, the Daily Mail reported.

David Axelrod, a top adviser to President Obama, cited Donald Trump’s proposal that both candidates be checked for drugs before the event. “Drug testing?!? You have to wonder if @HillaryClinton will/should reconsider next debate, given the depths to which this has sunk,” Axelrod tweeted Saturday.

The political strategist was reacting to Trump having written on Twitter: “Athletes, they make them take a drug test right? I think we should take a drug test prior to the debate. Why don’t we do that? We should take a drug test prior, because I don’t know what’s going on with her, but at the beginning of her last debate, she was all pumped up at the beginning, and at the end it was like, ‘Oh, take me down.’”

At a campaign rally this week, Trump ridiculed Clinton for having nearly fallen down at a 9/11 ceremony in New York City last month, when she was suffering from pneumonia. “She could barely reach her car,” the Republican nominee said. “So I think we should take a drug test. Anyway, I’m willing to do it.”

The Daily Mail noted that some people questioned whether Trump was high on drugs during the first two debates, when he continually sniffed. Howard Dean, a medical doctor and former Democratic Vermont governor who supports Clinton, tweeted after the first debate: “Notice Trump sniffing all the time. Coke user?”
