There's Mistletoe In The White House, And That's Far Too Much For Some Folks

Even Christmas decorations can’t be saved from partisan potshots. For those that were hoping that the holiday season would lead to the political pitchforks being put away for at least a little while, we are sad to tell you that this is one wish that doesn’t look to be possible - even during the most magical time of the year. As we’ve seen time and again throughout President Donald Trump’s time in office, even the simplest things can be twisted into really bad things.

As AOL shares, our latest example comes courtesy of one of the decorations that’s hanging up in the White House. First Lady Melania Trump was personally involved in selecting this year’s theme, and she excitedly shared a video of the final product on social media.

“The decorations are up! @WhiteHouse is ready to celebrate! Wishing you a Merry Christmas & joyous holiday season!” she wrote.

Unsurprisingly, the White House looks absolutely fantastic with the halls decked out in such a festive way. Just taking a look at it helps to let the holiday spirit seep in...that is, unless you’re someone that just loves to stir the pot as much as humanly possible. A simple post from CNN’s Kate Bennett got the ball rolling, and the social media mob took it from there.

“The mistletoe is a new touch…@WhiteHouse holiday decor tour,” she wrote.

Included in her post was a photo of some mistletoe that was hanging from one of the ceilings. While it’s unclear if Bennett was intentionally attempting to start a ruckus with her post, it didn’t take too long for that to happen. The sight of such a thing was far too much for some folks to bear, and they proceeded to attempt to make it seem as if this was a really big deal.

“Seems like a not-great idea to have mistletoe hanging in the White House amid a stretch of sexual misconduct stories,” shared one user.

“Harassment stations (aka mistletoe) hung from the ceiling of the WH in this political climate is so perfectly on brand for Trump it hurts,” wrote one commenter.

“Hmmm...watch where you stand, ladies,” added another poster.

At least one user would jump in to call out the absurdity of the back and forth that was going on.

“Mistletoe found in White House. Women run for your lives,” wrote one user. “Stupid reporting once again. Ridiculousness in journalism.”

It’s becoming quite apparent that the term ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome’ is not just a theory, but rather a real thing. We get it. There’s plenty of people out there that don’t care for the commander-in-chief or his politics. But does everything have to be so over the top? As in - does each and every thing that revolves around Trump need to be twisted beyond comprehension to advance partisan talking points?

It appears so. In any event, we sincerely hope those that are so incredibly angry all the time will find some time to relax and soak up some of the holiday spirit. After all, the most wonderful time of the year goes by in a flash, and there will be plenty of time for them to go back to acting collicky after the new year.
