Ted Cruz: Obama And Nixon Are In The Same Boat

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is disappointed by the fact that his fellow Democratic colleagues are disturbingly unwilling to criticize President Barack Obama regarding his executive actions that would protect undocumented immigrants from deportation.

During a Newsmax TV interview published on Monday, Cruz stated, "It's very interesting. Democratic senators privately will admit all sorts of things. But it's really disturbing: Democratic senators have been unwilling to stand up to this president, really on almost anything."

As a possible 2016 presidential contender, Cruz compared this type of support to the Richard Nixon era and Nixon's abuse of power. He shared how Republican senators actually stood up against Nixon and said, “Mr. President, you've gone too far. 'Mr. President, it's time for you to resign.' What is strikingly missing are Democratic senators who have more commitment to the Constitution and rule of law than they do to their party."

Yet, Newsmax anchor John Bachman conveyed that today's Democratic senators might say that Obama's controversies are not on the same level as Watergate, where there was a huge White House cover-up and burglary at the Democratic Party's national headquarters. Cruz replied, "Perhaps." Cruz then went on to discuss the Obama administration's IRS scandal, "But the point is when the IRS targeted citizens' groups for their political views, Democrats circled ranks around the president. To be honest, Nixon tried to use the IRS to target his political enemies; President Obama's administration succeeded."
