Ted Cruz: I Support Trump Because ‘Clinton Is An Absolute Disaster’

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz insisted this week that despite continued revelations about Donald Trump’s habit of insulting women, he will not join other congressional Republicans who are taking back their endorsements of the GOP presidential nominee, Newsmax reported.

Dozens of the party’s leaders, after hearing Trump’s lewd comments in an 11-year-old audio tape, have announced in recent days that they no longer support him. In the recording, the real-estate tycoon used profanity to describe how he had tried to have sex with a married woman, and exploited his status as a reality-show “star” to kiss women and “grab them by the p***y.”

Cruz argued that Trump is still a better choice than the Democratic candidate. “I am supporting the Republican nominee because I think Hillary Clinton is an absolute disaster,” he said in a Channel 6 interview with reporter Maggan Rennels. “Now, my differences with Donald I have articulated at great length during the campaign, and I tried all my might. It was an amazing journey.”

The senator was referring to his battle with Trump in the Republican presidential primaries. The two White House hopefuls exchanged multiple insults, including Trump’s suggestion that Cruz’s father was involved in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The New York City businessman also retweeted an unflattering photo of the senator’s wife, Heidi.

In the interview, Cruz left open the possibility that he will run for president again. “We’ll see what the future holds,” he said. Newsmax pointed out that he first must win re-election to the Senate in 2018.
