Survey Shows Conservatives’ Support For Fox News Dwindling

Conservatives are losing their faith in the Fox News Channel, according to the results of the most recently calculated YouGov Brand Index.

Those contacted in the survey last month gave the television network their lowest rating in three years, Newsmax reported. The decline in support started soon after the first Republican candidates’ debate, last August, when front-runner Donald Trump and Fox moderator Megyn Kelly engaged in a war of words. Kelly confronted the billionaire businessman on the derogatory terms he has used to describe women. Trump declared following the debate that the moderator “had blood coming out of her wherever.”

Many conservatives responded to the incident by siding with the candidate rather than Kelly. Their distrust in Fox, which had begun to appear in the index three months earlier, grew significantly. Poll respondents were asked to award a score to Fox News, on a scale of 100 to minus-100, based on the question: “If you’ve heard anything about the brand in the last two weeks, through advertising, news or word of mouth, was it positive or negative?”

The average response in January 2013 was 49. It fell to 38 following the August debate, then slipped to 36 in January and 14 last month. The latest score of 17 indicates that the trend could be reversing. When asked to rate Fox News and CNN together, conservatives gave an average score of a negative 5.
