Surprising Mastermind Behind President Donald Trump's Tweeting

President Donald Trump is a man who likes to speak his mind. He's infuriated the media by entirely bypassing them, rendering them useless, and sharing details directly to the public with his Twitter account. According to one source, Trump didn't come up with this idea all on his own. His ex-wife is claiming credit for it.

Ivana Trump, the president's first wife, claims that she's the one who told her ex-husband to use Twitter to get his words directly to the public. She warned him that the media outlets were going to 'twist' his words and be unreliable.

“I said, ‘I think you should tweet. It’s a new way, a new technology,'" Ivana said in an interview for 'CBS Sunday Morning' that’s scheduled to air this weekend.

"And if you want to get your words across rightly, without telling The New York Times, which is going to twist every single word of yours, this is how you get your message out,’” she added.

Trump has gotten a lot of flak, even from members of his own party, for some of his Twitter comments and rants. Ivana, mother of Trump's White House aide daughter Ivanka and sons Eric and Donald Jr., defends the president's use of Twitter.

“Well, it’s a tweeting president. This is his new way, how to put the message across. And he’s right,” she said.

Trump has defended his tweeting habit, claiming that if he didn't set the record straight directly with the public, the dishonest media would have destroyed him. “Without the tweets, I wouldn’t be here. I don’t have to go to the fake news,” he said to the Financial Times back in April.

During the election, people in his party were worried about the candidate being outspoken on social media, and he promised at the time to quit after winning the election. “Don’t worry, I’ll give it up after I’m president. We won’t tweet anymore. I don’t know. Not presidential,” he said at a campaign rally in Rhode Island.

However, that didn't happen. If anything, the president uses Twitter more than ever now. He's stated that he feels the need to correct the 'fake news' from his critics.

Ivana and Mr. Trump have apparently let bygones be bygones since the disastrous end to their marriage. Trump left Ivana for his then-mistress, Marla Maples, who he later married and, eventually, divorced. Several years later, he met and married the current Mrs. Trump, Melania. He and Ivana now keep in touch over the phone, and talk about once per week.

According to Ivana, Trump asked her to be the United States ambassador to the Czech Republic, the businesswoman and former fashion model's homeland. She claims she turned it down, however. Being a foreign dignitary just isn't something to which she aspires.

“I like my freedom. I like to do what I want to do, go wherever I want to go with whomever I want to go,” Ivana said.
