Is Landscaping The Reason Why Sen. Rand Paul's Neighbor Viciously Assaulted Him?

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) is still on the mend after a frightening incident at his home in Bowling Green. Paul’s neighbor, 59-year-old Rene Boucher, has been accused of jumping the senator with a blindside tackle while Paul was simply tending to some yard work.

Paul would suffer a number of broken ribs and a bruised lung as a result. There remains no clarity on why Boucher did what he did, but there has been a ton of speculation about what led to it.

As the Daily Mail shares, scuttlebutt has run the gamut from a dispute over grass clippings to severe political differences. Either way, Paul has noted that he hasn’t spoken to his neighbor in the gated community in years.

Bill Skaggs, the 74-year-old developer of the community, is among those that are up in arms over what took place.

“I just don't understand what makes a man break like that. There must have been some sort of latent friction. I just don't think a person goes walking up the road, sees his neighbor out on the lawnmower and goes racing across the hillside and blindsides him.

If he did that then he was mentally ill,” he said. “Personally I might welcome him back but it would be better for this community for him to leave. It's hard to forgive and forget six broken ribs.”

There have also been reports that Boucher is frustrated over the fact that he hasn’t been able to sell his home, and he’s placing the blame on trees that are on Paul’s property as the reason.

Paul spoke to the Washington Examiner for his first interview after the attack, and he could frankly care less what Boucher’s problem is.

“From my perspective, I’m not really too concerned about what someone’s motive is. I’m just concerned that I was attacked from the back and somebody broke six of my ribs and gave me a damaged lung where at least for now I have trouble speaking and breathing and now I’ve hurt for 10 days,” he said.

Others have suggested that the attack was somehow politically motivated, but that has yet to be proven. Boucher has been noted as being anti-GOP and anti-Trump, but it’s unclear if that’s what led to him becoming unhinged at the sight of Paul tending to his yard.

Regardless of the reasons, charges have been filed. Boucher will soon be the one in a world of hurt as a result of his neanderthal-like actions.

“Really if you told me he was doing it for some noble cause to feed starving children somewhere, there is no motive.

There is no motive that would justify hitting somebody from behind and breaking their ribs and damaging their lungs, so no, there is no justification for something like that,” Paul continued. “My first encounter was basically being hit in the back. We’ve never had words over anything, we’ve never had a dispute or discussion or words.”
